Contour Chronicals - Makeup Store Eyeshadow in Masai

Hi Everyone!

As a fairer skinned girl, I do struggle to find a contour shade that doesn’t pull too orange toned or muddy. So I thought I’d run a Contour Chronicles series along side my Concealer Chronicles. I’ve already posted about MAC Harmony blusherNYXTaupe blusher & NARS Laguna bronzer. I thought I would continue the series from a product you might not expect to use as a contour shade, from a brand you might not have heard of - the Makeup Store Eyeshadow in Masai.

As I’ve already said, I have fair skin but I think, when taking about any skin, undertone is also very important to note. I’ve yellow undertones; so don’t fall into the palest category, which mostly describes those with pinker undertones.

To keep consistency, I’m going to be using my MAC 168 brush on my face & the Real Techniques Duo-Fibe Eye Brush to contour my nose. If I’ve found a brush that I think creates a better result for the product in question I’ll be sure to let you know.

Makeup Store don't give a description for their eyeshadow shades - sorry guys!

This eyeshadow applies easily & is highly pigmented. Despite this, it is not easy to overdo; rather it is easy to build up colour quickly to achieve a stronger or more natural effect. The cool tone of this eyeshadow makes it ideal for my pale skin, though I don't know whether it would create a sickly look on those with pink undertones - I might have to experiment on my sister, if that's something you'd like to see let me know! I have on occasion been too heavy handed when using this eyeshadow to contour, but that's purely because I had become used to needing to use a heavier hand. I would describe Masai as a cool, mid-toned grey.

Products used:
Makeup Store Eyeshadow in Masai
Garnier BB Cream
B. Finishing Powder
Estee Lauder Disappear Smoothing Crème Concealer in Light
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder in 01
Benefit Stay Don't Stray Primer
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Eyeshadows from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
GOSH White Eyeliner
NARS Eyebrow Sculpting Pencil in Kalamata
MUA Clear Mascara as brow gel
Bobbi Brown Blusher in Nude Pink
Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts Highlighter in Goddess Of Love
Rimmel Lip Liner in East End Snob
Urban Decay Lip Junkie Lipgloss in Naked

I prefer a cooler toned contour shade even though my skin is warmer in tone! Maybe it’s to do with me also being of a lighter complexion – who knows! I never expected a product that is essentially a grey eyeshadow to work so well on me - I'm definitely impressed. I know this won't be to everyone's taste!

Makeup Store’s Eyeshadow in Masai is £13, while the 168 brush & Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Collection are £27 & £23 respectively.

What product(s) & brush(s) do you use to contour with?

Tania Xx

Thanks, I think this has to be my favourite of all my products to use for contouring (don't tell anyone though as I'm going to unveil it when I do my round up!) Xx
